Curved erection among men has often become a cause of unnecessary worrying and apprehensions regarding their sexual health. It should be understood that curved erections aren't necessarily a disease and they certainly aren't related to impotence. Often ridiculed as a sign of weakness, the curvature of an erect penis doesn't affect the sexual performance or the sperm count (fertility) of a man in any conceivable way. The only issue really is about how curved erections are perceived, i.e. their psychological effect. The fact is that for most men, the idea of having a curve in their erect penis induces embarrassment though it isn't a physical deformity. As a result, many resolutions for correcting the curvature of penis have been introduced. However, these cannot be described as surgical procedures undertaken for diagnostic reasons. Most measures recommended for curved erections are somewhere in the realm of cosmetic surgery or an alleviating therapy since the curvature is known to stress out men to the extent of become chronically depressed. However, if the curve in the penis appears like an extreme bend, giving the penis a distinct, lop-sided/twisted appearance, medical opinion should be sought.

Differentiating between Curved Erections & Peyronies Disease

Another misconception about penile curvature is that the bending is often misinterpreted as Peyronies Disease. It should be understood that this disease is an abnormal bend that is far more severe than the kind of curving discussed above. Further, even such extreme bending can be surgically corrected using contemporary medical services. Most curved erections don't have any accompanying pain or any significant discomfort. There is no difficulty in urinating or performing sexual actions since the curvature is essentially a minimal bending that gradually seeps in.

On the other hand, the extreme bending in Peyronies could be painful and causes discomfort such as being able to tuck-in the penis when walking since the penis remains permanently suspended in a downward direction. Further, during Peyronies Disease, the problem becomes largely apparent during erection, i.e. the bending takes a more significant form when the penis is erect. This is largely due to presence of scar tissue within the penis. However, minimal curvature, even during erection shouldn't be a cause of worrying. Peyronies can be very disconcerting since one part of the penis may develop a thinner layering of skin and become over-sensitive. The presence of scar tissue means that the affected part of the penis does not stretch properly which causes spam-like pain during an erection.

Minimal curvature in the penis is often caused due to wearing tight undergarments for years and due to habitual, sitting postures. The condition in Peyronies is caused due to more drastic reasons such as a wrongful surgical procedure, an underlying congenital abnormality or any other kind of physical accident that might have caused internal scarring in the penis's tissue, causing it to bend in an abnormal manner. While Peyronies may need surgical intervention followed by some degree of rehabilitation, minimally curved erections can be resolved by following some simple instructions.
